This one feels like a déjà vu to me. Whenever I open my preferred twitter app for the Mac, Osfoora, the fan of my MacBook Air starts to scream. Anyone who owns one of Apple’s sleekest laptops knows that a loud fan is hardly ever an issue. Interestingly enough, I’ve had the same problem last summer after installing one of the developer previews for OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.
As Activity Monitor will tell you, something isn’t right. The CPU usage is way above what could be described as normal.
I’m using the official Twitter app instead while I’m waiting for the developer to fix the issue. The app can be found in the Mac App Store. +++Update+++ It is now apparent that using the official Twitter app doesn’t solve a thing as I’m experiencing high CPU usage with that app as well. Thankfully, there are many other options in the Mac App Store to try. My hope is that the issue will be resolved in one of the next developer previews for OS X 10.9 Mavericks. One last option for now is to just use the Twitter web interface.
The problem seems to have been fixed in the Developer Preview 2. No more high CPU usage for the Osfoora or Twitter apps now.
